Environment & Responsibility

As our standard synthetic material consisting entirely of hydrocarbon, polypropylene is produced from mineral oil and, when processed, does not pollute the air, soil or ground water. Mono-material plastic films can be reused to some extent, which is accomplished by feeding the material back into the manufacturing process without compromising on product characteristics.

In addition, monofilament can convert film remnants into bristles. Ultralen K wet films can be recycled even when joined with other materials. In this process, the laminating film is segregated from the cellulose fibres of the substrate and fed into the recycling process. Having said that, the films can also be sent to regular waste disposal sites without contaminating the air, soil or ground water. They can also be combusted leaving no remnants at all, beside carbon dioxide and water.

Manufacturing process

A mineral oil product, polypropylene (PP) is made entirely of hydrocarbon. PP granulate is transformed into films in extrusion plants,
again without impacting the air, soil or ground water in any way whatsoever.

Film recycling

Mono-material PP foil residues are reintroduced to some degree into the film manufacturing process without suffering any deterioration in quality. Another portion of the film remnants are agglomerated to be transformed by monofilament manufacturers into bristles for example.

Composite recycling

Using appropriate methods, Ultralen® laminating films can be segregated from the cellulose fibres of the paper or cardboard substrate and recycled separately. In the fabrication of so-called grey paper and cardboard, ULTRALEN® film laminated products can be introduced directly, within certain permissible limits.

Disposal of ULTRALEN® laminating films as waste

ULTRALEN® films can be sent to normal waste disposal sites without impacting the air, soil or ground water.

Combustion

ULTRALEN® laminating films burn off completely without leaving residues aside from carbon dioxide and water. No poisonous or corrosive gases are formed. A purely mineral oil-derived product, polypropylene with its high heating value can help save on supporting energy, depending on how much of it is contained within the domestic waste. Plants generating heating steam or electrical power via combustion heat can further utilise the energy content (energy recycling).
